హైదరాబాద్: నందమూరి బాలకృష్ణ హీరోగా నటించిన 'లెజెండ్' సినిమా ప్రదర్శనను నిలిపివేయాలని వైఎస్సార్ కాంగ్రెస్ నాయకులు రాష్ట్ర ఎన్నికల సంఘాన్ని కోరారు. బాలకృష్ణ స్వయంగా పోటీలో ఉన్నందున లెజెండ్ సినిమాను నిలిపివేయాలని రాష్ట్ర ప్రధాన ఎన్నికల అధికారి భన్వర్‌లాల్ కు వైఎస్సార్ సీపీ నేతలు విజ్ఞప్తి చేశారు.

ఈ సినిమా ఓటర్లను ప్రభావితం చేసే అవకాశం ఉంది కాబట్టి దీని ప్రదర్శనను నిలిపివేసేలా చర్యలు తీసుకోవాలని కోరారు. ‘లెజెండ్’ సినిమా ప్రదర్శనను నిలిపివేయాలని వైఎస్‌ఆర్‌సీపీ అనంతపురం నేతలు ఆ జిల్లా కలెక్టర్ కు ఇప్పటికే ఫిర్యాదు చేశారు.

ఎన్నికల్లో డబ్బు ప్రవాహానికి అడ్డుకట్ట వేయాలని విద్యార్థులకు సూచించారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమంలో ముఖ్యఅతిథిగా ఎన్నికల సంఘం రాష్ట్ర ప్రధాన అధికారి భన్వర్‌లాల్ పాల్గొన్నారు. రాధాకాష్ణ మాట్లాడుతూ అభ్యర్థుల కులం, మతం, ప్రాంతం చూడొద్దన్నారు. అభ్యర్థుల గుణం చూసి ఓటేయాలని సూచించారు. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌కు నేడు తాడు, బొంగరం లేకుండా చేశారు. ఈ క్లిష్ట సమయంలో జాగ్రత్తగా వ్యవహరించి సమర్థవంతమైన నాయకత్వాన్ని ఎన్నుకోవాల్సిన అవసరాన్ని ప్రజలకు తెలియజేయాలని చెప్పారు. రాజకీయ వ్యవస్థ అంతా కుళ్లిపోయిందన్న భావన నుంచి విద్యార్థులు బయటికి రావాలని, అంతా ప్రభుత్వమే చేయాలన్న ధోరణి సరికాదన్నారు. ఓటు వేయడం ప్రాథమిక బాధ్యత అని ప్రతి ఒక్కరికి తెలియజేయాలని సూచించారు. రాజ్యాంగానికి నేను అతీతుడిని అన్నట్లుగా వ్యవహరించడం వలనే ఢిల్లీ ముఖ్యమంత్రి కేజ్రీవాల్ రాజీనామా చేయాల్సి వచ్చిందని చెప్పారు. ఫీజు రీయింబర్స్‌మెంట్ వంటి పథకాలకు ఆకర్షితులు కావడం వలన నేడు ఇంజనీరింగ్ విద్యలో క్వాలిటీ తగ్గిపోయి పట్టభద్రులకు ఉద్యోగాలు దొరకని పరిస్థితి నెలకొందన్నారు. దేశంలో న్యాయవ్యవస్థ చురుకుగా ఉండటం వలనే 2జీ లాంటి కుంభకోణాలు వెలుగులోకి వచ్చాయని చెప్పారు. ఎన్నికల్లో పోటీ చేస్తున్న వారిలో ఉన్నంతలో మంచి వాళ్లను ఎన్నుకోవాలన్నారు. నోటా ఓటుకు తాను వ్యతిరేకమని స్పష్టం చేశారు.

తెలంగాణ ప్రజలకు ఇచ్చిన మాటను కాంగ్రెస్ నిలబెట్టుకుందని, తెలంగాణ ఇచ్చింది...తెచ్చింది కాంగ్రెస్సే అని ఎంపీ రాజయ్య అన్నారు. మంగళవారం ఉదయం మీడియాతో మాట్లాడుతూ కేసీఆర్‌ది అధికార దాహమని, కేసీఆర్ మాటలను ప్రజలు నమ్మరని ఆయన వ్యాఖ్యానించారు. తెలంగాణ విషయంలో స్వపక్షంలో ఉండి ప్రతిపక్ష పాత్ర పోషించామని, మమ్మల్ని ద్రోహులనడం సరికాదన్నారు.

తెలంగాణ పునర్నిర్మాణం, బంగారు తెలంగాణ కాంగ్రెస్‌తోనే సాధ్యమని ఎంపీ రాజయ్య స్పష్టం చేశారు. అధికార దాహంతోనే కాంగ్రెస్‌ను కేసీఆర్ కాదనుకున్నారని మరో ఎంపీ గుత్తా సుఖేందర్ ఆరోపించారు. కేసీఆర్, కేటీఆర్, హరీష్ సెగ్మెంట్లలో అమరవీరుల కుటుంబాలకు ఎందుకు టిక్కెట్లు ఇవ్వలేదని ఆయన ప్రశ్నించారు.

సత్తెనపల్లి: సత్తెనపల్లి నా జన్మస్థలం. నేను కోరుకున్న నరసరావుపేటను కాదనుకుని నన్ను కోరుకున్న సత్తెనపల్లికి రావడం ఎంతో ఆనందంగా ఉందని టీడీపీ రాష్ట్ర నాయకుడు, మాజీ మంత్రి డాక్టర్ కోడెల శివప్రసాదరావు అన్నారు. ఆదివారం రాత్రి కాకతీయ కల్యాణ మండపంలో టీడీపీ పట్టణ అధ్యక్షుడు యెలినీడి రామస్వామి అధ్యక్షతన జరిగిన కార్యకర్తల సమావేశంలో ఆయన మాట్లాడుతూ ఆ తల్లి ఒడి నుంచి ఈ తల్లి ఒడికి చేరానన్నారు. కార్యకర్తలు చంద్రబాబు నాయకత్వాన్ని బలపర్చాలన్నారు. రైతు రుణమాఫీ గురించి ప్రజలకు వివరించాలన్నారు. నా మీద అభిమానం చూపిస్తున్న సత్తెనపల్లి ప్రాంత ప్రజల రుణం తీర్చుకుంటానని, నియోజకవర్గ అభివృద్ధికి కృషి చేస్తానని అన్నారు. సత్తెనపల్లి నియోజకవర్గంలో టీడీపీ 25 వేల ఓట్ల మెజార్టీతో విజయం సాధిస్తుందని ధీమా వ్యక్తం చేశారు. ఈ నెల 17వ తేదీన టీడీపీ నియోజకవర్గ ఇన్‌చార్జ్ నిమ్మకాయల రాజనారాయణ ఆధ్వర్యంలో నియోజకవర్గ కార్యకర్తల సమావేశం జరుగుతుందన్నారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా పార్టీ శ్రేణులు కోడెల నాయకత్వం వర్ధిల్లాలంటా నినాదాలు చేశారు. ఇదిలా ఉండగా మండలంలోని గుడిపూడి గ్రామానికి చెందిన టీడీపీ కార్యకర్తలు కొందరు ఎంపీటీసీ ఎన్నికల్లో వైసీపీకి సహకరించిన వారు సమావేశానికి వచ్చారని ఆందోళన చేశారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా ఇరువర్గాల మధ్య ఘర్షణ చోటుచేసుకుంది.

తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీకి జనసేన సంఘీభావం

తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీకి జిల్లాలో జనసేన పార్టీ నాయకులు, కార్యకర్తలు సంఘీభావం తెలియజేస్తోన్నారు. టీడీపీ నాయకులు నిర్వహిస్తోన్న ఎన్నికల ప్రచారాల్లో జనసేన కార్యకర్తలు పార్టీ జెండాలతో వచ్చి మద్దతు తెలుపుతున్నారు. చంద్రబాబు తనయుడు నారా లోకేష్ జిల్లా పర్యటనలో తొలిసారిగా జనసేన శ్రేణులు టీడీపీతో కలిసి ముందుకు నడిచాయి. దీంతో తెలుగుతమ్ముళ్లు ఎన్నికల ప్రచారంతో మరింత ఉత్సాహాన్ని ప్రదర్శిస్తున్నారు.
జనసేన పార్టీ అధినేత పవన్ కల్యాణ్ 'కాంగ్రెస్ హఠావో... దేశ్ బచావో' నినాదంతో రాజకీయ అరంగేట్రం చేసిన విషయం తెలిసిందే. ఈ ఎన్నికల్లో తమ పార్టీ పాల్గొనదని, ఏ ఒక్క రాజకీయ పార్టీ గెలువు అవకాశాలు దెబ్బతీయ దలుచుకోలేదని స్పష్టం చేశారు. అలానే బీజేపీకి, ప్రధానమంత్రి అభ్యర్థిగా మోదీకి సంఘీభావాన్ని ప్రకటించారు. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో జనసేన, తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీ మధ్య జిల్లాలో చెలిమికి బీజం పడింది. టీడీపీకి సంఘీభావంగా ఎన్నికల ప్రచారంలో పాల్గొనాలని ఇప్పటికే పవన్ కల్యాణ్ జనసేన పార్టీ శ్రేణులను ఆదేశించారు. దీంతో జనసేన కార్యకర్తలు ఎన్నికల ప్రచారంలో బైకు ర్యాలీలు, పాదయాత్రలతో హల్‌చల్ చేస్తూ టీడీపీలో కొత్త ఉత్సాహాన్ని నింపుతున్నారు.
యువతలో పవన్ కల్యాణ్‌కు మంచి క్రేజ్ ఉన్నది. గతంలో పవన్ జిల్లా పర్యటనకు వచ్చిన సమయంలో యువత విశేషంగా స్పందించింది. ఆయన యాత్రలో భారీ సంఖ్యలో పాల్గొని విజయవంతం చేసింది. జిల్లాలోని అన్ని పట్టణాలతో పాటు మండలాల్లోనూ పవన్ కల్యాణ్ అభిమాన సంఘాలు వందల సంఖ్యలో ఉన్నాయి. ఆయా సంఘాల్లోని పవన్ అభిమానులంతా క్రమంగా తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీ తరుపున ఎన్నికల ప్రచారాల్లో పాల్గొంటున్నారు. పవన్ అభిమానుల మద్దతు వలన తమకు ఓటింగ్ శాతం మరింత పెరిగిందని టీడీపీ జిల్లా నాయకులు చెబుతున్నారు.
ఇదిలావుంటే బీజేపీకి మద్దతుగా ఇప్పటికే పవన్ కల్యాణ్ ఎన్నికల ప్రచారాన్ని ప్రారంభించారు. ఆయన త్వరలో జిల్లాకు కూడా వస్తారని రెండు పార్టీల నాయకులు భావిస్తున్నారు. టీడీపీ ప్రజాగర్జన జిల్లాలో ఇప్పటివరకు జరగలేదు. ఇతర జిల్లాలను తలదన్నే రీతిలో లక్షల మంది ప్రజలతో సభను నిర్వహించాలని ప్రణాళికలు రూపొందిస్తున్నారు. అన్ని నియోజకవర్గాల టిక్కెట్ల ఖరారు పూర్తి అయి నామినేషన్ల ప్రక్రియ ముగియగానే గర్జన తేదీని నిర్ణయించాలని నాయకులు భావిస్తున్నారు. ఆ సభకు పవన్ కల్యాణ్‌ను కూడా తీసుకురావాలని యోచిస్తున్నారు.

TDP clears Nani’s name for Vijayawada LS

Nani ‘rattled’ by reports that Pawan Kalyan proposed P. Varaprasad's name. Meanwhile, discontent continued in the TDP rank and file over allocation of some important seats to the BJP as part of the alliance.

The Telugu Desam Party has finally cleared the candidature of Kesineni Srinivas alias Nani from the Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency.

The decision came after Mr. Nani called on TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu at his residence on Monday morning. Though what transpired in the meeting was not known yet, the TDP president is learnt to have assured Mr. Nani that he was the party’s choice from the prestigious constituency.

Mr. Nani had been nurturing the constituency for some time now after receiving an assurance from the party leadership, but doubts were expressed on whether he would be allotted the ticket. Mr. Nani was reportedly unnerved by claims of a section of leaders that film star and Jana Sena Party founder Pawan Kalyan had strongly recommended the name of his close confidant Potluri Varaprasad to the TDP leadership.

A formal announcement of Mr. Nani’s candidature will be made in the next list likely to be released by the TDP leadership on Monday midnight or early Tuesday. “His (Mr. Nani’s) name has been finalised and we will officially announce it any moment from now,” a senior leader engaged in the screening exercise told The Hindu.

Protests continue

Meanwhile, discontent continued in the TDP rank and file over allocation of some important seats to the BJP as part of the alliance. A section of the TDP cadre damaged furniture in the party office in the Vijayawada West constituency in protest against allotting the seat to the BJP while their counterparts in Nellore staged protest against the decision to give Nellore Rural seat to the saffron party.

TDP activists ransacked the party’s office at Kaikalur in Krishna district for giving away the seat, a stronghold of the party, to the BJP. They disrupted a meeting of the important leaders of the constituency demanding re-nomination of Jayamangala Venkataramana who won from the seat in the previous elections.

పవన్‌కళ్యాణ్‌ అకౌంట్‌లో కట్‌

నసేన పార్టీ స్థాపించిన పవన్‌కళ్యాణ్‌ ఈ ఎన్నికల్లో తాను పోటీ చేయడం లేదని, తన అభ్యర్థుల్ని ఎవర్నీ కూడా నిలబెట్టడం లేదని స్పష్టం చేసేశాడు. అయితే ఈ పార్టీ తరఫున పొట్లూరి వరప్రసాద్‌ పోటీ చేస్తాడని, ఒకవేళ జనసేనలో కాకున్నా అతనికి టీడీపీ లేదా బిజెపీలో టికెట్‌ వచ్చేట్టు పవన్‌ చూస్తాడని ఊహాగానాలు సాగాయి. జనసేన ఆవిర్భావ సభకి, వైజాగ్‌ బహిరంగ సభకి అయిన ఖర్చులు మొత్తం అతనే భరించాడని కూడా అన్నారు. అయితే పివిపి పెట్టిన డబ్బులన్నీ కూడా పవన్‌తో అతను నిర్మించబోయే సినిమాకి ఇచ్చే రెమ్యూనరేషన్‌ నుంచి కట్‌ చేసుకుంటాడట. 

ఇప్పటికే పార్టీ కోసం సొంత డబ్బు చాలా వరకు ఖర్చు పెట్టిన పవన్‌కళ్యాణ్‌కి ఇప్పుడు ఈ సభలతో భారీగానే అప్పు పడ్డాడు. ఇకపోతే ఎన్నికల్లో పోటీ చేయడం లేదు కాబట్టి ఇక షూటింగ్స్‌కి వెంటనే వచ్చేస్తాడని అనుకుంటూ ఉంటే ఇప్పట్లో షూటింగ్స్‌కి రానని పవన్‌ తేల్చేసాడట. మరో ఏడు సభలు నిర్వహించి జనాన్ని మేల్కొలిపే ప్రయత్నం చేస్తాడట. ఎన్నికలు అయ్యాక కూడా పవన్‌ సభలు కొనసాగుతాయట. వచ్చే ఎన్నికలని దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకుని పవన్‌ ఈ ప్రణాళిక వేసుకున్నాడని భోగట్టా.

వారసుడికి ఇక అడ్డు లేదు

మామ ఎన్టీఆర్ నుంచి పార్టీని, అధికారాన్నయితే సంపాదించుకున్నారు కాని ఆయన వారసులు అంటూ నందమూరి కుటుంబం బెడదను మాత్రం నారా వారు ఇప్పటి వరకు తప్పించుకోలేకపోయారు. ఇక తన రాజకీయాల నుంచి రిటైర్మెంట్ తీసుకునే సమయం దగ్గరపడనున్న నేపథ్యంలో తన వారసునికి నందమూరి కుటుంబం నుంచి బెడద లేకుండా శాశ్వత చర్యలు తీసుకోవాల్సిన అవసరం వచ్చింది. చంద్రబాబు అంటే రాజకీయాల్లో ఆరి తేరినవారు. ఎలాంటి పరిస్థితులనైనా తట్టుకుని నిలబడగలరు. కాని తన వారసుడు లోకేష్ కు అంత చతురత వుంటుందా? వుండదా అన్నది అనుమానం. అందుకే తను ఉన్నప్పుడే లోకేష్ కు భవిష్యత్తులో ఎలాంటి ఇబ్బందులు తలెత్తకుండా అన్ని పనులు చంద్రబాబు చక్క దిద్దుతున్నారు.

తెలుగుదేశం తన చేతిలోకి వచ్చిందే కాని ఇప్పటి వరకు నందమూరి వారసత్వం నుంచి చిక్కులు తప్పలేదు. ఎన్టీఆర్ పేరును వాడుకోవడం తప్పనిసరి. అది వాడుకోవాలంటే ఆయన వారసులను ఉంచుకోవడం కూడా కంపల్సరీ. దీంతో చంద్రబాబు తొలుత హరికృష్ణను దగ్గర తీసుకున్నారు. హరికృష్ణ రాజకీయ దురంధరుడు కాకపోయినా కూడా తండ్రి పేరు చెప్పుకుని చంద్రబాబును ఎన్ని ఇబ్బందులకు గురిచేసారో అందరికి తెలిసిందే.

చివరకు ఎన్టీఆర్ పోలికలతో కుమారుడు జూనియర్ తయారుకావడంతో హరికృష్ణ చంద్రబాబును ఓ ఆటాడుకోవడం మొదలెట్టారు. ఈ మద్య అటు తండ్రిని, ఇటు కొడుకుని అడ్డంపెట్టుకుని చంద్రబాబును ఏకంగా ఏదో చేయాలనే భావనలోకి హరికృష్ణ వచ్చారు. పదవికి రాజీనామా, ఒంటరిగా ప్రజల్లోకి వెళ్లేందుకు రథయాత్ర వంటి స్కెచ్ లు వేసుకున్నారు. చంద్రబాబు కాబట్టి ఎలాగోలా నిలువరించారు.
జూనియర్ ను ఓ దశలో జగన్ కు దగ్గరగా చేస్తున్నాన్న రేంజ్ లో హరికృష్ణ చంద్రబాబుకు డేంజర్ సిగ్నల్స్ కూడా పంపారు. ప్లెక్సీలు, బొమ్మలు బాగోతం అందులో భాగమే.  ఇవన్నీ చంద్రబాబును రాజకీయంగా ఎన్ని ఇబ్బందులు పెట్టాయో అందరికి తెలిసిందే.

అయితే ఇక చంద్రబాబుకు కాలం కలసి వచ్చిందో, ఆయన తెలివితేటలు సహకరించాయో తెలియదు కాని నందమూరి బెడద ఇక పూర్తిగా తొలగిపోయే క్షణాలు వచ్చేసాయి. హరికృష్ణ టిడిపిలోనే ఉంటూ చికాకు పెడుతుండగా, ఎన్టీఆర్ కూతురు పురంధరీశ్వరి కాంగ్రెస్ లో ఉండి కొరకురాని కొయ్యగా తయారయింది. ఎన్నటికైనా చంద్రబాబుకు పురంధరీశ్వరి నుంచి రాజకీయ ముప్పు ఉందనే భావం ఇప్పటివరకు ఉంది.

ఇక ఆ భాద తొలగినట్టే. విభజన పుణ్యమా అని పురందరీశ్వరికి రాజకీయ జీవితాన్నిస్తున్న కాంగ్రెస్ ఖతం అయింది. దీంతో ఆమె  తన భవిష్యత్తు కోసం బిజేపిలో చేరారు. ఇది చంద్రబాబుకు మరింత ఇబ్బంది పెడుతుందని భావించారు. కారణం బిజేపితో పొత్తు పెట్టుకున్నందున పురంధరీశ్వరిని ఇక ఏమి అనలేక భరించాల్సి వస్తుంది అనుకున్నారు. కాని ఆమె విషయంలో చంద్రబాబు వ్యూహాత్మకంగా వ్యవహరించారు. తన ఆమె గెలిచే అవకాశాలు అంతో ఇంతో ఉన్న విశాఖ లోక్ సభ స్థానం ఆమెకు దక్కకుండా పోయింది. అసెంబ్లీ కి ఆమె పోటీ చేయదు, చేసినా గెలిచే అవకాశాలు తక్కువ అంటున్నారు. అంటే స్ట్రాంగ్ గా ఉన్న నందమూరి వారసత్వం ఒకటి రాజకీయాలకు దూరం అయినట్టే అంటున్నారు.

ఇక మిగిలింది హరికృష్ణ , ఆయనకు చంద్రబాబుకు ఎదురొడ్డి ఏదో చేసే సత్తా లేదు. కొడుకు జూనియర్ ను అడ్డంపెట్టుకునే ఏదైనా చేయాలి. కాని జూనియర్ ను చంద్రబాబు పక్కా పథకం ప్రకారం పక్కను నెట్టారు. ఆయన ఇప్పుడు రాజకీయాల మాటే ఎత్తడం లేదు. ఓ వేళ మాట్లాడిని టిడిపికే నామద్దతు అనడం తప్ప మరో మాట అనకుండా చేసారు. హరికృష్ణ చంద్రబాబును కాదని చేసిన వ్యవహారం అంతా చూసారు కాబట్టి ఈ సారి ఆయనకు టికెట్ ఇవ్వకున్నా చంద్రబాబును తప్పుగా భావించే పరిస్థితి లేదు.

అందుకే ఆయనకు టికెట్టు రాలేదు. చివరిదాకా ఇస్తున్నట్టే భ్రమలో ఉంచి చివరకు ఇవ్వకుండా మొండి చేయి చూపారు. వియ్యంకుడు నందమూరి వారసుడు బాలకృష్ణ రాజకీయాల్లోకి వచ్చారుగా. నందమూరి బెడద ఎలా తప్పుతుంది అనుకోవచ్చు. నిజానికి బాలకృష్ణకు రాజకీయ చతురత, ఎదిగే లక్షణాలు లేవు. ఆవేశం అంతంత మాత్రం. పైగా అన్నింటికన్నా ఆయన లోకేష్ కు మామగారు. అందువల్ల బాలకృష్ణలో లోకేష్ కు వచ్చిన ఇబ్బందులు లేవు. బాలకృష్ణ గెలిచారే అనుకుందాం, ఆయనకు పెద్ద పదవి కూడా ఇచ్చారే అనుకుందాం. కాని తన కూతురునే కొడుకుకు ఇచ్చారు. అలాంటప్పుడు అల్లునికి అండగా ఉంటారు తప్ప ఎదురు తిరగే ప్రయత్నం చేయరు గాక చేయరు. మరి ఇక వారసుడికి అడ్డేముంది? - See more at: http://telugu.gulte.com/tnews/4206/Chandrababu-make-free-path-lokesh#sthash.22o7culF.dpuf

Naidu did not ask PRP to join Babli protest: Chiru

TIRUPATI: PRP president K Chiranjeevi said his party was not invited by TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu to take part in the Babli protest in Maharashtra and described the actions of the TDP as a stunt to garner political mileage.

Chiranjeevi was reacting to a reported charge by the TDP that PRP leaders did not join the protest despite being invited. "Being a senior politician, I think he knows how to invite another party president. Since he wants to garner political mileage out of the Babli issue, he did not invite us," the PRP chief told the media here on Saturday.

Further, he said when chief minister K Rosaiah has called for an all party meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on July 23, there was no necessity for the TDP to stage this protest.

However, he condemned the arrests of Naidu and his MLAs by the Maharashtra government.

Earlier on Friday night, the PRP chief had walked all the way up the Tirumala hills via Alipiri and took seven hours to reach the holy hill town. The local legislator stopped at various places all along the 8 km hill route and inspected the sanitation and drinking water facilities provided by TTD for pilgrims along the route. The MLA expressed satisfaction but felt that a lot more facilities should be provided for pilgrims. He said that TTD should make special arrangements for women who were walking up the hills carrying infants.

Later, he stood in queue at Sudarshan token counter and went for darshan of Lord Venkateswara. TTD gives priority darshan priority to those who come on foot. To personally verify this, Chiranjeevi is said to have chosen the Sudarshan token darshan rather than the VIP darshan.

After the first walkathon to Tirumala, he said: "I felt exhausted as I walked over 15 km at a stretch from Leela Mahal junction to Tirumala. About two decades ago, I would regularly trek to Sabarimala in Kerala. Between 1981 till 1999, I used to visit Sabarimalai every year. It has been a decade since I undertook a similar exercise. Now, I think I still have the stamina,'' he said in a lighter vein.

TDP calls for AP bandh to protest Naidu's arrest

Telugu Desam Party has called a bandh in Andhra Pradesh on Monday in protest against the arrest of party president N Chandrababu Naidu and 74 legislators by Maharashtra police.

TDP senior leaders in Hyderabad held an emergency meeting at the party headquarters here this evening and finalised the action programme. They also had a teleconference with Chandrababu Naidu who was remanded to two days judicial custody by a court in Dharmabad in Maharashtra.

"We appeal to the people to co-operate and make the agitation a success," Yanamala said.

Meanwhile, information reaching here said the arrested TDP leaders were refusing to be lodged as separate groups in different prisons in Maharashtra.

"We shall all stay together. Take us to only one prison wherever it is," they reportedly told the Maharashtra police.

"We have been informally told by the police that they will continue our detention in the Dharmabad ITI itself. They seem to be making some arrangements for this, with separate facilities for the women legislators," one of the arrested MLAs told PTI over phone.

Media personnel from Hyderabad who followed the TDP delegation on the tour said the Babli Bachao Samiti activists asked them to leave Dharmabad immediately.

"The Samiti workers are forcibly sending away the broadcasting vehicles parked at Dharmabad to block the coverage of the happenings there," a journalist said over phone.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has called the former Andhra Pradesh chief minister's action as being politically motivated.

"There are elections around the corner in Andhra Pradesh which is why this issue has emerged again. Let's not look at it politically," Chavan said.

He added that the case was already with the Supreme Court and hence should be judged on the basis of its merit.

Naidu, who travelled about 35 kms covering Jagadgirigutta, Gajularamaram, Shahpur, Suraram colony, Jeedimetla and Fatehnagar divisions, said that if the TDP was voted to power in the GHMC elections, it would take all steps to restore the city’s glory.

Alleging that the Congress party had collected money to give tickets to the candidates, he said a vote for the Congress would mean a vote for corruption. Amidst shouts and whistles from party activists, Naidu promised to see that basic problems like drinking water, sewerage, electricity, roads, health and housing were attended to. He assured them that if voted to power, the TDP would decentralise local administration so that local leaders do not have to run around offices of corporations for various permissions.

Referring to the Bholakpur deaths, poor conditions in government hospitals, and the spread of vector-borne diseases like chikungunya and dengue, he said these speak volumes about the government’s attitude towards its citizen.

On the goings on at Obulapuram mines, he said while the Centre constituted dozens of teams to probe into the Rs 5000-crore scandal involving former Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda, the state government was silent on the Rs 10,000-crore scam in OMC mines.

Meanwhile, 17 rebels were suspended from the party for failing to withdraw from the polls. The rebels are from Uppal, Chandrayangutta, Jubilee Hills, Sanatnagar, Serlingampalli, Kukatpally, Qutubullapur, Malkajgiri and Secunderabad.

Rice will cost Rs 100 if Cong wins: TD chief

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu has accused the State Government of failure to control the prices of essential commodities, maintain law and order, and address the problems of weaker sections.
Campaigning for his party candidates in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, Naidu addressed a string of meetings in the city today.
If the Congress was voted to power, life would become miserable for the citizens and rice would sell at Rs 100 a kilo, he warned.
Describing the Congress Government as the most inefficient and corrupt, Naidu said that during its tenure, law and order had taken a beating what with terrorists setting off bombs at Gokul Chat, Lumbini Park and Mecca Masjid. During the days of TDP government, Hyderabad used to be the most tranquil city with development taking place all over and no law and order problem ever raising its ugly head, he claimed.
Naidu was critical of the Congress for not being responsive to the needs of the weaker sections who were clamouring for house-sites. “For the Congress, which is not interested even to part with 60s sq yards for the poor for housing purpose, showed unusual interest in handing over thosuands of acres to those who happened to be in their good books,’’ he remarked.

Sonia should reply to Reddy's mining activities: Naidu

Hyderabad, Nov 19 (PTI) TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu today said Congress president Sonia Gandhi owed an answer to the people for turning a blind eye to the alleged illegal mining activities by Karnataka Tourism Minister Gali Janardhana Reddy's mining firm in the state and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

"The Karnataka unit of Congress is fighting the illegal activities of Gali while the AP unit has been supporting it. Even the Congress high command too seems to be supporting the mining mafia," Naidu told reporters.

"It is obvious that the late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's family is hand-in-glove with Gali. Sonia Gandhi owes an answer to the people on this because the mining mafia led by the Karnataka minister was looting precious national wealth," Chandrababu alleged.

"Gali has pumped tonnes of money into the Congress kitty in Andhra Pradesh.

TDP now targets Bramhani Steels

HYDERABAD: Continuing its attack against the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), the Telugu Desam party (TDP) today made another allegation that the State Government had shown undue favour to Bramhani Steels Limited.
Speaking to reporters here today, TDP MLA A Revanth Reddy alleged that the State Government issued orders for supplying 2 tmcft of water by constructing an intake well in the backwaters of Mylavaram reservoir instead of the Gandikota reservoir. He pointed out that the government had asked the APGenco to carry water from Brahmasamudram three years ago for the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Plant (RTPP) because there was no water available in the Mylavaram reservoir. But the same government issued a GO in 2008 allocating 2 tmcft of water to Bramhani Steels, he alleged.
``If water was available in the Myalavaram reservoir, why did the government want Genco to carry water from the Brahmasamudram through pipelines, which costs the Genco around Rs 300 crore?’’ Reddy recalled that originally the government had wanted the Bramhani Steels to tap the Gandikota reservoir but the latter preferred the Mylavaram source. The government’s permission was nothing but favouring Bramhani Steels and subjecting Genco to a loss, the TDP leader alleged.
Revanth Reddy accused Chief Minister K Rosaiah of being blind to the irregularities and helping the `J’ gang increase their assets. ``If Bramhani Steels drew water from the Mylavaram reservoir around 1.10 lakh acres in Kadapa district would turn bone-dry,’’ he said and called for an immediate halt to the pipeline works of Bramhani Steels. He also demanded that the State government order a probe into the matter.
Meanwhile, leaders of Opposition parties have decided to stage a dharna near the Ambedkar statue here in protest against the `irregularities’ of OMC.

Telugu Desam demands judicial supervision, time

HYDERABAD: Welcoming Chief Minister K Rosaiah’s request to the Centre to order a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities of Obulapuram Mining Company, the Telugu Desam party (TDP) today demanded that the probe should be conducted under the supervision of a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
Speaking to reporters here today, TDP MLAs A Revanth Reddy and S Venugopalachary demanded that the government fix a time-limit for the probe into charges of illegal mining by the OMC.
CBI probes were ordered in Paritala Ravindra’s murder and on the alleged irregularities in the Outer Ring Road (ORR) project but no one knew the outcome of those enquiries, they pointed out. The TDP MLAs also demanded that the chief minister remove director of mines and geology VD Rajagopal and principal secretary (CCF) Sivasankar Reddy from their present posts.
Those officials who could help the CBI in the investigation should be appointed, they demanded.
The TDP leaders alleged that there was a `J’ gang behind the OMC irregularities.
They, however, did not specify the names. ``Those whose names begin with the letter `J’ are all behind the irregularities.’’ They demanded that the mining leases be kept in abeyance and all the properties be confiscated till CBI completed its probe. The CBI should also cover the evasion of royalty and sales tax and other issues, they demanded.

Tree cut to make way for CM's convoy?

HYDERABAD: Was a huge old banyan tree on Karkhana main road almost axed on Tuesday to clear the way for chief minister K Rosaiah’s convoy? The roads
and buildings department brought down a leafy banyan, which sources say was to give a clear passage to the chief minister who is expected to pass by this route to attend the inauguration of a Kalyana Mandapam near Hakimpet Air Force Station Compound on Wednesday.

The tree-felling was stopped when the residents of the area started inquiring why the banyan was being cut and started contacting this newspaper to complain about the same. With forest officials reaching the spot and the R&B department getting alerted, the tree-felling, which was meant to continue all night, was stopped. However, almost half the tree was mutilated.

While sources said the green murder was to make way for the CM’s convoy, which is expected to pass by this stretch twice on Wednesday, officials denied the same.

While the tree-cutting was proposed months ago, the authorities had gone slow on it till the CM announced his plan to pass by this route.

“The CM is scheduled to pass through the road. The tree was coming in the way of our repairing the road,” an R&B official told TOI. However, senior officials of the department said this was not so and that the tree-felling exercise was “routine” for which they had even taken permission from the forest department in 2008. “This is a routine exercise and we will relocate the tree if possible,” said Sudarshan Reddy, executive engineer, R&B, who maintained that the CM taking this route had nothing to do with this decision.

Meanwhile, officials of R&B, Karkhana police and even the forest department ganged up against the tree and said it was “half dead’’, termite-infested and could fall on its own if not removed. “The tree was old and obstructing the way. It could fall any time and that is why it was removed,” said Subhash Babu, Karkhana police inspector. However, citizens who saw the tree being axed disagreed. “The tree was very green and had new shoots springing up. The claim that it is termite-infested and half dead is far from the truth,” said Ramesh Kodambi, a businessman who was present at the site.

Green lovers also asked how a tree which is in the corner of the road and leaning towards the police station would disrupt the passage of the CM’s convoy.

According to another resident of the Karkhana area, tree-felling has been rampant in this area for long. “This tree has been around for a long time and it is a shame that it was cut down. It was not blocking the road,” said Suresh Kochattil, a concerned denizen.

The forest department had revoked all tree-felling permissions last year in response to the green movement catalysed by The Times of India. Tree-felling, it had said, would be permitted only if there was no other alternative and only after translocation as an option had been considered.

TDP to use K’taka Cong report to expose OMC

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam plans to use the material prepared by its arch-rival, the Congress, to expose `illegal mining’ by the company owned by Karnataka Minister and BJP leader Gali Janardhan Reddy.


A TDP delegation, which will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh soon, will present a booklet brought out by the Karnakata Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on `illegal mining activities’ of Gali Janardhan Reddy.

KPCC’s `fact-finding’ report was published last year and the TDP is quoting from the book in support of its allegations against Janardhan Reddy, who is the Tourism Minister in the BJP Government in Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters here today, TDP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy said that they would soon meet Chief Minister K Rosaiah and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding immediate halt to the mining activity in Andhra Pradesh by the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by Gali Janardhan Reddy. ``We will also present the KPCC report to the prime minister,’’ the TDP leader said.

Reddy said that his party had been fighting against the illegal mining by Gal i Janardhan Reddy for the last four years but the State Government issued notices only yesterday. ``Mere issuance of notices is not sufficient, the State Government should stop all the mining activities of OMC,’’ he demanded. He also urged the State Government to arrest the directorgeneral of mining for lending support to the illegal mining.

The TDP leader said that an expert committee should be constituted to fix the boundaries of OMC. He alleged that government’s advisor KVP Ramachandra Rao and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy abetted the illegal mining.

When the BJP leader was resorting to illegal activities, the Congress government supported him, he alleged.

Another TDP leader S Venugopala Chary demanded that the State Government impose a heavy penalty on Gali Janardhan Reddy and collect sales tax from him.

Cong buys Chiranjeevi insurance against YSJ

NEW DELHI: Congress may have found an out-of-the-box solution to settle the Andhra Pradesh leadership issue. The party has roped in actor
Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections to be held later this month.

The tie-up has sent shock waves through the Andhra unit of the party as its real significance goes much beyond the local body elections in Hyderabad on November 23. The move effectively sidelines late Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s son Jaganmohan Reddy and puts in place a safety net for the K Rosaiah government in the state in case the Jagan faction decides to walk out of the party. PRP has 18 MLAs in the 294-member Andhra Pradesh assembly.

There was speculation that the resignation of state women welfare minister Konda Surekha last week could have hastened efforts by Congress to insulate the party from desertions by Mr Reddy’s supporters.

However, it is the prospect that the Congress high command has found a face fill up the leadership vacuum left behind by YSR that has fuelled speculation about how the tactical move will play out in the run up to the assembly elections in 2014. Political observers suggest future developments will have to be watched closely to decipher exactly where the charismatic and popular matinee idol would fit in the Congress scheme of things.

In the absence of a replacement for YSR, the party may have handed over charge to the experienced Rosaiah but there is little doubt Congress will be looking for a leader who can attract crowds for the next assembly polls. YSR’s 36-year old son is ruled out, at least for the moment. The high command has signalled its reluctance to hand over the leadership baton to Mr Jaganmohan Reddy, who is seen as too young and inexperienced . Moreover, the campaign launched by the Jagan group to install him as CM immediately after his father’s death was also seen as a move to arm-twist the high command.

The only draw back for the Congress in the alliance lies in the performance of PRP. Mr Chiranjeevi , who made a big bang entry on the political scene with a massive rally in Tirupati, was not able to demonstrate N T Rama Rao-kind of appeal in the Lok Sabha and assembly elections held this year. Though he served to damage the opposition TDP in the elections, his party only managed to pick up 18 seats. It remains to be seen how Congress-PRP alliance performs.

The tie-up was formalised after negotiations between APCC president D Srinivas and PRP leader and Mr Chiranjeevi’s brother-in-law Allu Aravind.

It’s final: GHMC elections on Nov 23

HYDERABAD: The poll bugle has been sounded for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. Putting an end to a two month-long suspense, the State Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for GHMC polls to be held on November 23. Votes will be counted on November 26.
Addressing a packed media conference at his office on Thursday, State Election Commissioner AVS Reddy stated that the elections will be held for 150 wards in GHMC limits and a formal notification will be issued in this regard on October 31. Candidates can file the nominations from October 31 and the last date for submission of nomination is November 6. The scrutiny of nominations will be on November 7 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is on November 10. The final list of candidates will be published on the same day.
On November 23, the polling will be held from 7 am to 5 pm where Electronic Voting Machines will be used for the first time in local body elections.
Election to the offices of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of GHMC will be conducted on December 6 for which a formal notification will be issued on December 2. In case the election cannot be held on December 6, it will be held on December 7. The model code of conduct has come into force from 4 pm on Wednesday. The State Election Commission is preparing a special circular to avoid interruptions to government programmes.
“Hyderabad being the State capital, there are certain problems or limitations in implementing the model code of conduct. There are several Statewide programmes which will be affected due to the model code of conduct.
The State Election Commission is preparing a circular in this context without interrupting such regular programmes. However, we request everyone, including political parties and the media not to blow issues out of proportion keeping in view the larger interests of the public,” said AVS Reddy.

Rosaiah rides the poll wagon
Chief Minister K Rosaiah had a hectic day on Wednesday laying foundation stones and inaugurating development schemes across the city, thus raising the curtain for the hustle and bustle of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.
In his maiden tour of Greater Hyderabad, Rosaiah accompanied by Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues, MLAs and MPs promised all things to all people. Rosaiah’s tour started at ACS Nagar in East Marredpally where he laid the foundation stone for JNNURM Housing Colony.
Health Minister for Health D Nagender, Minister for Backward Classes Mukesh Goud, Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, Secunderabad MLA Jayasudha, Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav participated in the tour.
YSR wishes ko salaam
“As per the wishes of the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, we will construct houses under the JNNURM with proper infrastructural facilities.
If the beneficiary invests Rs 1 lakh, we will pay the remaining Rs 3 lakh to help him complete his house,” Chief Minister K Rosaiah said. “Under JNNURM, Rs 4,000 crore has been spent to develop localities under GHMC in the last few years,” he said adding that 1.2 lakh houses would be built. A foundation stone was laid for the IDH Colony near Bhoiguda.
Three reservoirs
Proposals for three reservoirs by HMWS&SB at Chilkalguda, Chanchalguda and Santhoshnagar acquired life with the Chief Minister laying the foundation stones for them.
Suburbs in focus
In the suburbs, foundation stones were laid for many infrastructure projects.
They included road-widening works between Ambedkar University and Kavuri Hills, a new road from Madhapur to Raheja Park. The tour concluded at BHEL junction after laying a foundation stone for Central Modern Lighting from BHEL Junction to Nakka Vagu. Rosaiah talked of the upcoming joint venture of BHEL-NTPC at Srikalahasti and expansion of the Visakha steel plant.
Taatha is here!
Wherever CM Rosaiah went, children cheered him, singing songs and addressing him as grandfather (taatha). Surprisingly, the Chief Minister disappointed locals in all the locations he visited, by not interacting with them. Many wanted to have a word or two with the newly-appointed CM but Rosaiah did not seem to have the time.
No politics please
Rosaiah steered clear of any political statements throughout his tour. He did not hit out at the Opposition parties like the TDP or TRS or their leaders. He confined himself to stating what the government was doing.
